Cold weather conditions pose significant challenges for emergency response personnel, affecting both physical performance and decision-making. Specialized training is required to ensure preparedness for operations in such environments.
Cold weather conditions pose significant challenges for emergency response personnel, affecting both physical performance and decision-making. Specialized training is required to ensure preparedness for operations in such environments.
Objective:
To evaluate the “Cold Weather” training course conducted by a disaster medicine center, focusing on participants’ perceptions of their competence, preparedness, and applicability of knowledge in their professional roles.

Results:
The evaluation combined questionnaire data from a course in Kiruna and focus group interviews with participants from multiple sessions. Results indicate that participants reported high levels of increased knowledge and preparedness regarding operational behavior in cold conditions, including clothing, equipment, and peer monitoring. However, lower ratings were observed regarding organizational preparedness and available resources for cold-weather operations. Participants also emphasized the importance of adapting the training to local conditions and integrating the knowledge into existing organizational practices.
