A prospective exploratory cohort study is initiated on trauma patients at the emergency department (ED) at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, Kenya.
Variables recorded include patient gender and age, time of arrival, condition at arrival, the mode of transport and type of incident. Descriptive data include time of the accident, arrival time, mechanism of injury and interventions performed. Vital signs are measured during arrival and admission. Time spent in the ED and the numbers of treatment days are registered. The research focuses on establishing a triage system at the emergency department.
